Sunday Message–September 23, 2018

September 23, 2018

Good afternoon,

Communication between schools and homes is an essential component to student success.  This school year Brevard Academy is dedicating an entire day to parent conferences.  Wednesday, September 26 is a non-student day.  If you have not already scheduled a conference with your child’s teacher, please make sure to do so.  Mountain Roots is hosting a conference day camp at the school if you need childcare.  This is provided on a drop in or all day basis.  Please follow the link in your email or on our website.  Click here to register.

I want to hear from you regarding your conference.  Once you have completed your conference, please complete the three-question survey in your email.  Click here for the survey.

In order to make sure that we are able to communicate with you, please make sure that you send in the PowerSchool Information forms back to the school with any updated changes.

Congratulations to our flag football team.  We are once again, Blue Ridge Conference Champions.  Way to go Bulldogs!

Before I sign off, I want to remind you that we are in the middle of our PTO Read-a-Thon.  Reading is crucial to academic and life-long success.  Our goal is to encourage reading as well as raise funds for our PTO in order to provide enriching experiences for our students.  Our goal is to raise $10,000.00 or $25/student.  If we reach this goal, I will kiss a pig at one of our Friday morning assemblies.  More information about the Read-a-Thon can be found in your email.

Your children.  Our mission.

The news and events for the week are listed below.

Fall Service Day–September 29 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm

We have our second annual Fall Service Day planned for September 29.  This is a rain or shine event.  We have a variety of grounds beautification projects planned as well as interior cleaning.  If you are able to attend, please bring work clothes, a pair of gloves, garden tools, and hand tools.  We aim to pull some weeds, repair picnic tables, and do some planting if time allows.

If you are able to attend and can help head up a project, please contact Tim Prey at

PTO News

FALL FESTIVAL IS NOW OCTOBER 6th from 11:00-3:00 pm.  We hope that you all can come for a day of fun!  We will have food, games, inflatables, prizes, cakewalk, craft vendors and the dunk tank.  We also need to get all our volunteers signed up again!  We need people from set up to clean up and for all the games and concessions.  See link to sign up, or email PTO with your availability.

Please consider helping for an hour while your kids play, or let them help you run a booth.  This is a community, family friendly event, so feel free to invite your friends!

Fall Read-a-Thon

We are doing great for our first Read-a-Thon!  Remember this is our big fundraiser this year and we need to get everyone involved.  If we reach the $10,000.00 goal, Mr. Duncan has agreed to kiss a pig!  We also have prizes for grade levels that get the most pledges.   We hope that you can share your link online with friends and family or ask friends and neighbors to support your school.  This helps us fund our field trips, and class supplies for the year.  You have until Sept 28th to get pledges.  All students need to turn in sheets and money to your teacher by Oct. 1st.

We are also accepting Box Tops, Community Coffee packages, or Tyson Chicken rewards at any time for the Box Tops – Tools for Education classroom collection.  Thank you!

We appreciate all your support of PTO and Brevard Academy!
