Sunday Message for September 9, 2018

September 9, 2018

Good afternoon,

I would like to extend big congratulations to all of our Bulldogs for finishing MAP testing this week.  Assessing student progress instruction is necessary in order to effectively plan, but it can create stress in students.  Stress can lead to increased absences and tardies. However, our student attendance for last week was 98%! Out of all the students who were present, 96% of students were on time.   Thank you parents for all you did last week to get your child to school on time.

As you know, we are committed to safety at Brevard Academy.  Please be aware that our focus on safety extends to our arrival and dismissal processes.  We have worked hard to create a safe and efficient procedure by increasing visitor parking, staff presence, and working with our safety patrol.  As such, we want to make sure that you are doing your part to help keep our campus safe. While in our parking lot, make sure that you are following directions from staff, keeping up with the flow of traffic, displaying your pick up placard, and practicing distraction free driving.  If you are on a handheld device, I will not call your child’s name during pick up as you are creating an unsafe situation and inefficient flow. I realize that there are emergencies in life; therefore, we have increased our visitor parking areas. If you have a call that you have to make, please keep us all safe by parking and taking the call.  Please feel free to park in any designated parking space facing the school or to the east of our sign.

Your children.  Our mission.

Go Bulldogs!

Friday, September 14 is an 11:30 Dismissal

Our after-school is closed and lunch will not be served.  All students need to be picked up by 12:00.

Middle School Orientation

The Brevard Academy middle school team will host a parent orientation on Tuesday, September 11 at 5:30.  Please come, support your child, and learn the processes and procedures of our middle school team. This is an excellent time to ask questions and learn more about your child’s daily routine.

Signing in students at drop off in the morning

Beginning on September 17, all visitors to the building during morning drop off will need to sign in at the front office.  You are welcome to walk your child to the side door, but in order to enter the building; you will need to sign in.

Car Line Reminders

When leaving our parking lot, please turn right on to Glade Creek Road.  This allows our buses to access the parking lot and helps keep traffic flowing.  It is also the safest way to exit our parking lot. Do not enter our parking lot from Glade Creek, even after hours, as we are a busy campus from 7:00 am until after 5:30 pm most days.

The busiest time in the morning is between 7:40-7:55.  Arrive at 7:30 and you will breeze through our drop off line and quickly be on your way.

If you need to help your child out of the car or unload instruments or projects, please use one of our designated parking places in order to help traffic flowing smoothly.

NC Smiles Dental Program

The NC Smiles Program had to rescheduled and will be here in early November.  We have scanned in all data for students who will attend. We will update you with the details closer to November.  Please contact Ms. Lefler at if you have questions.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is growing.  Please make sure that you check our lost and found for missing items.  It is located on the blue hallway. Unclaimed items will be donated to local nonprofits or consignment on Friday.

Health Fair, September 13

We will be holding our first health fair on Thursday, September 13.  Students’ vision and hearing will be checked. We will also have community partners to teach students about healthy snacks, handwashing, and mosquito and tick awareness.  We are working to keep your child safe, healthy, and able to attend school. Officer Light will also be conducting a car seat check between 8:00-10:00 am. If you are interested in having your car seat checked, please park in any designated parking spot facing the school.

We still need volunteers to help with set up, break down, and supervision.  If you can help, please email Kelly Tynch at
