Sunday Message for September 29, 2019

Dear Bulldog Parents,
Intramural Sports Program

Our Intramural sports will continue this upcoming week and for the time being, will only be held on Thursdays from 3:30- 4:30.  Registration forms were sent out last week, but you can still register and pay the $5 fee at the front office. The students participating will learn the skills needed to play handball/speed ball, followed by a fun and competitive game. We had a good turn out this past week, and the students had a blast! In the future, we hope to offer Boys and Girls Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, Whiffleball, Capture the Flag and more.

Please complete the registration form as soon as possible as space is limited and these spots will fill up fast.  If your child is already in Bulldog Care, he/she can participate at no extra charge.

For more information, contact Coach Burroughs at

Lunch Change

Beginning in mid-October, we will pilot cafeteria lunch service at school Tuesdays-Fridays. We foresee several advantages with this program:

Daily lunch ordering—parents will no longer need to order lunches ahead of time.
Reduced waste—rather than using styrofoam containers, students will use reusable plates and cutlery.
Hot lunch service—lunches will be served on-site rather than prepared off-site and brought to the school.
Pizza orders will continue to be made through Orgs.  We are excited about this program and will be providing more information in the coming weeks.
Mountain Biking Club

We will start our mountain bike rides this week!  Please join us this Thursday, October 3rd for a ride on campus.  We will go to DuPont State Forest on October 6th for a ride from 2:00-3:45 pm. Mrs. Page and Coach Jones will have the printed schedule and it will be posted to our Facebook page.  Please note that all students wishing to participate must have a physical on file at school and need to have their mountain bike packet completed and given to Ms. Page or Coach Jones prior to Thursday.  Local bike shops need to do the bike inspection, we are not able to do this. Please note that parents must provide transportation to rides off campus. Each student wishing to participate must have their own bike for off campus rides as well.
Conference Camp and Teacher Workday Camp

The Traditional Martial Arts Center in Etowah offers day camps on our teacher workdays, inclement weather days, parent partnership days, and any time the school is closed.  Flyers for these camps are available in the main office or at

Parent-Partnership Day–October 2nd

Parent Conferences

Please make sure you have scheduled a time for your student-led parent-teacher conference taking place on our Parent Partnership day, Wednesday, October 2nd.  Students will be showcasing their work and your child’s teacher will be discussing goals for the rest of the school year. If you have major concerns, please let your teacher know prior to the conference so that these concerns can be addressed privately at the conference.
Volunteer Opportunities

Please join us before or after your child’s conference to do some volunteering.  We will be working to beautify our grounds, create steps to our athletic fields, establish our gardens, and prepare for fall.  Please bring landscaping/garden tools and wear appropriate clothing. For more details, contact Mr. Tim Prey at for details.
Winter Uniform Sale and Exchange

We will have winter wear on sale in the front office throughout the day.  Uniform vouchers are good school sales only. If you have uniforms that no longer fit, bring them for a $2 voucher.
On-Site Conference Camp with Mountain Roots

Mountain Roots will be offering a one-day Conference Camp on Wednesday, October 2nd from 8:00 am-5:00 pm while BA is closed for parent/teacher conferences. This day camp will be held on-site and will be a fun day of adventure and learning. All K-5 students are welcome to register and all middle school students may join the leader-in-training program, Roots Crew, for the day (separate application necessary). Registration and more information can be found on the Mountain Roots website at
Lost and Found

The lost and found has grown quite large and has an array of items including lunch boxes, water bottles and sweatshirts. We will relocate the rack of items onto the outside patio during Parent Partnership day. Please be sure to label your child’s items so that they are easily identified. All items will be donated at the end of the week.
PTO News

The Pisgah Coffee Roasters Fundraiser kicks off this week on October 2nd. PTO will be sending information home at the beginning of the week. We have also partnered with Duck Pond Pottery for beautiful, one-of a kind coffee mugs. More details will be sent home with students by Tuesday. These make great gifts and are only available for a limited time. Make sure to stock up! Samples will be provided during parent teacher conference day.
Send in your Box Tops this month for the Fall Contest! Please send in baggies with box tops and community coffee labels, with teacher and grade clearly marked. This is a great way to earn money for the school.
Pink Out with Hope Chest

October 1st marks the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month as well as the kick off of our annual Pink Out. We have expanded our efforts to raise money for the Hope Chest of WNC from a week to the entire month of October! The Hope Chest is a non-profit who offers financial assistance to women in WNC battle breast cancer, and recently suffered tremendous losses to vandals. We will be encouraging students to bring in loose change all month to celebrate our school wide initiative promoting kindness and making a difference. At the end of the month, the director of the Hope Chest will be on campus for our Friday assembly, where we will present her with all the funds raised. The teachers in each class who reach their goal will have to dye their hair pink! If we get 100% participation, school wide, Mr. Duncan will dye his hair too!!!
