3rd Grade Teacher
Welcome to third grade! There is so much for students to learn and so much growth to be made this year. I look forward to helping your child learn and grow! A little bit about myself: I have lived in Brevard for 20 years with my husband. In my free time, I help my husband with our business, The Duckpond Pottery. I received my B.S. in Natural Resource Management and Recreation from the University of Florida and completed my K-6th Grade Teaching Certification at UNCA. I have two children who attend Brevard Academy.
I have worked with children in varied capacities over the years as a teaching assistant, pottery instructor, after school arts instructor with the Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County, pottery program director at Rockbrook Camp for Girls, naturalist instructor with The Cradle of Forestry in America Interpretive Association, living history reenactor at a turn-of-the-century teaching farm, and as a ranger with the Florida State Park Service. I enjoy making connections between the Core Knowledge curriculum and my varied life experiences.
In third grade, students begin the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Our Core Knowledge curriculum expands the student's background knowledge of the world around them while challenging them to become stronger readers and writers. Our teacher read-aloud science and social studies component, Listening and Learning, allows students to access interesting and enriching material that they may not otherwise be able to read independently. This is presented as a daily, interactive read aloud and is one of my students' -and my- favorite parts of the day. Our Math curriculum encourages students to use multiple approaches to problem-solving while connecting concepts to everyday life. I love teaching our curriculum and would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the third-grade year at Brevard Academy.
Thank you for trusting me with your child's education!
