Sunday Message–September 16, 2018

September 16, 2018

Good afternoon,

Full Time Art Teacher Emily Taylor

I am pleased to announce the hiring of Emily Taylor as our full-time art teacher.  Ms. Taylor comes to us after serving with the Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County for the last seven years.  Ms. Taylor will be a great addition to our staff as she has a unique understanding of the needs of our community.

Please welcome Ms. Taylor to our Bulldog community.  She can be reached at etaylor@brevardacdemy.school.

I would also like to recognize the excellent work that Mr. Winston Warner has done as our interim art teacher the last several weeks.  Ms. Winston was a tough act to follow, but he did a great job forming relationships and getting students excited about art class.  We wish him the best as he returns to Greenville, SC.

Weather Preparation and Updates

TeamCFA has provided all schools and families information on preparing for bad weather.  This information is posted to our website.  In the event that we have a closing or delay, I will post information on our website and Facebook page, send out communication via our alert system, and inform local radio and television stations about our plans.  A full list of media outlets that broadcast our information can be found in the Family Handbook.

Yearbooks Go On Sale Monday Morning!

The Yearbook Staff has been hard at work pouring their creativity into our 20th edition of the Brevard Academy Yearbook. While the staff are out and about snapping photos around campus and at sporting events, we know parents and family members probably have some great shots you might want to share. We are utilizing a new picture sharing site this year to allow our Bulldog Families to be active participants in this amazing publication. If you would like to participate, the website is http://www.replayit.com/#/home where you will be prompted to register and search for the “Brevard Academy.” Follow the prompts from there and your photos will be sent directly to us.

In addition, we are running a series of promotions to kick start yearbook season! Please see the cost schedule below:

September 10-November 30 $35

December 1-February 22 $40

February 23-April 26 $45

April 27-May 17 $50

Please go to https://www.jostens.com to place your order!

We will also be offering a sibling discount. Students must reside at the same residence in order to qualify and the order form has already been sent home. These must be ordered before the November 30th deadline. After that, they will go to full price. This allows us a more accurate count with our final order. Extra order forms are available in the front lobby.

Please email us at yearbook@brevardacademy.school with any questions.

Girls on the Run WNC – Brevard Academy

For the third year in a row, Girls on the Run (GOTR) WNC will have a team at Brevard Academy. GOTR is open to girls in grade 3 – 5. GOTR inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experienced based curriculum that creatively integrates running.

Interested girls can register to be participants via the GOTR website (https://www.gotrwnc.org/Program-Registration) beginning September 4 through 13. We can only accept 15 girls; if more than 15 girls register, a lottery is held (conducted by the GOTR WNC headquarters) to select participants. There is a $150 registration fee and financial assistance is available on a sliding scale based on family income and household size.

Lessons will begin the week of September 17 and be held Tuesday and Thursday after school 3:15 – 4:45 p.m. Lessons run for 10 weeks and culminate with the running of the GOTR 5K on Sunday, December 2 at the Asheville Outlets.

We are looking forward to another great season of Girls on the Run! If you have any questions please reach out to site coordinator, Kelly Brown at kalb266@gmail.com or 828-551-7941 or coach Julie Gaston at julie@sonosession.com or 831-595-2111.
