Sunday Message for September 30, 2018

September 30, 2018

Good afternoon,

I hope that this message finds you well.  This past week, reminded me of the importance of conversation.  I met with parents on Tuesday for my first Ted Talk and gained valuable insights into our school its strengths and areas where we can improve.  On Wednesday, I saw highly engaged parents talking with their children and parents about academics.   Conversation, discussion and debate are at the heart of problem solving and education. In our busy world, conversation can take a backseat to what we perceive as matters that are more important.  The intent behind our dedicated parent teacher conference day was to allow time for conversations to take place.

It is my aim to keep our conversations going in order to improve Brevard Academy.  In order to expand our conversations, I am updating my website regularly with newsletters to offer academic help and parenting articles in the hopes of becoming a better resource for you.  On Tuesday night, we will host our annual Title 1 night focusing on how you can help support your child at home.  The evening starts at 5:30 pm.  We will have a Jet’s Pizza dinner.  You can RSVP below, on Facebook, by calling the school, or emailing events@brevardacademy.school.

As always, I value your feedback and want to hear what you think.  Let me know what you thought of our dedicated conference day, good times for the next Ted Talk, and the resources on my website or whatever else is on your mind.  Submit feedback any time via email at feedback@brevardacademy.school.

Your children.  Our mission.

Title 1 Night RSVP

We are hosting our annual Title 1 night on October 2 from 5:30-6:30 pm.  We will have a Jet’s Pizza Dinner and discuss ways to help your child succeed at school.  Please RSVP by calling the office, emailing events@brevardacademy.school or filling out the form here.

Brevard Academy Supports The Hope Chest

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!  As always, we will hold our annual PINK OUT event.  We have set a school-wide goal of 100% participation in raising funds for PINK OUT.  If your child sends in $1 or more, he or she can wear PINK to our school-wide PINK OUT assembly on Tuesday, October 16th.  The more pink the better! For each homeroom/classroom that has 100% participation, (every student sends in $1 or more), those teachers will dye their hair PINK.  If the whole school has 100% participation, Mr. Duncan will dye his hair pink, too!  Homerooms will also decorate their classroom door with PINK and there will be a contest held the day of the assembly for the winning door.  As always, all proceeds will go to the Hope Chest for Women of Western North Carolina, a local organization that donates to families in our community.  We will be collecting donations starting Monday, October 8th through Monday, October 15th.  Please join us in making this event fun and successful!  Last year we raised $1,600, and it would be awesome to match or beat that!! Thanks for your support of Brevard Academy and our community outreach.

Girls’ Basketball

The girl’s basketball coaches will be hosting an open gym on Monday, October 1st for any 5th -8th grade girl interested in playing basketball this season.  This is not a practice but it will be a great chance to get to know the coaches and work on basic skills. Pickup will be at 5pm.
