Sunday Message for August 26, 2018

August 26, 2018

Good afternoon,

This is School Director Ted Duncan from Brevard Academy.  We just completed our first full week of school and it was a great week.  Our students have made the transition from summer back the classroom in great fashion.  Our school improvement team has worked to create clear behavior expectations.  We want our Bulldogs to display Positive attitudes and efforts, be Accountable for actions, be Well-mannered, and Show responsibility (PAWS). Our PAWS are school-wide expectations can be applied to any grade level in any situation.

Teachers have been slowly rolling these expectations out to make sure they are clear.  At Brevard Academy, we are applying our PAWS as we practice our routines and procedures to the point of perfection.  Your child will let you know that we are not practicing until we get it right; we are practicing until we cannot get it wrong.

Please help us reinforce our PAWS by reviewing them with your child.  Your child should have a copy of our PAWS, but you can also find them on our website.  I am also asking all parents to give us some feedback by completing our Welcome Back Survey.  Feedback is critical to improvement and success.  We welcome the opportunity to grow and learn.

Let us know how we are doing by emailing feedback@brevardacademy.school.

Your children.  Our mission.

Go Bulldogs!

The news and events for the week are listed below.

Lunch Ordering is Open

September lunch ordering will open Monday, August 20 and close on Monday, August 27.  Please contact Ms. Lefler at 828-885-3112 if you have questions.

School Directory

We are in the process of building a student/parent directory in order to build a stronger Bulldog Community.

As a parent, you have the right to opt out of the directory and not disclose your child’s name, telephone and email address, and grade level according to FERPA law.  A comprehensive explanation of the law can be found on pages 28-29 of our Family Handbook.  If you would like to opt out, please email your child’s teacher or send in a note stating that you do not want your child or his/her information listed in the directory by August 31. Please state in the subject line–Opt “Out of Directory.”

Authorization to release child and Car Placards

At Meet the Teacher, you will get a packet of information that will include car rider placards and emergency release information.  These items need to be filled out and returned to school as soon as possible to ensure a safe and efficient dismissal process for your child.

Bus Placards

New placards were sent home with students Friday.  If you have questions, updates or changes, please send in a note to your child’s teacher

Boys and Girls Club Bus

The afternoon bus to Boys and Girls Club will begin on Monday, August 27th.  If your child will be riding this bus, please ensure that you have completed the registration form on our website under the Parent & Student Info tab.

MAP testing

Map testing begins on Monday, August 27th. Please check teacher websites and/or newsletter for a schedule of the days each class will participate in testing.  Please make sure your child is at school on time each morning and has a nutritious breakfast.

Family Handbook Updated and Online

We have revised our Family Handbook.  The full handbook, Code of Conduct, and Consequence Chart are online under the Student Life tab.  If you need a hard copy, please let your child’s teacher know.

Areas to review are as follows: early drop off, uniforms, transportation changes, attendance, and student medication.  All families are required to review this information with their child annually.
